Hypnosis and NLP for Competitive Cyclists
My letter printed in Cycling Weekly on 15th April 2010 highlights the benefits of NLP and Hypnosis for competitive cyclists - not just for weight loss!
It was good to see an article in Cycling Wekly April 1st 2010 introducing your readers to the benefits of hypnotherapy and NLP for weight loss. As a hypnotherapist, NLP trainer and cyclist myself I would like to highlight that there are additional benefits to these techniques in improving performance. In particular competitive cyclists can use such tools in the following ways:
1. In performance preparation there are hypnotherapy and NLP offer techniques to get the racing cyclist into the best 'state' for optimum performance. These are more sophisticated and effective than the standard advice that is given for visualisation. However once taught, the cyclist can practise these skills themselves, including self-hypnosis. These techniques can also be applied to training so that to get the best out of each session.
2. We all know the importance of recovery for repairing muscle damage and developing strength and endurance. Therefore the quality of relaxation influences the ability to strengthen and improve. Self hypnosis and NLP can have a powerful recuperative benefit for mind and body.
3. Hypnotherapy and NLP offer effective ways of overcoming anxieties and negative beliefs which could occur from crashes. They can they help a cyclist to ride confidently again and enable them to be patient during an enforced lay-off.
I would be happy to provide advice about specific techniques that cyclists can use if that would be of interest.
